✈️ Microlight Grey Team: Rust Removal & Painting Session | Aerospace Discovery Programme
After cleaning and preparing the microlight in our previous sessions, our group took a big step forward on 17 December 2025 by starting the restoration of the metal structure. From 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM, we focused on two important tasks grinding away rust and painting the metal frame black.
We began the session by carefully grinding the rusted areas of the microlight. Some parts of the metal were heavily affected, so this stage required patience and teamwork. Grinding off the rust helped expose the original metal surface and allowed us to clearly see which sections were still strong and usable. Although the work was dusty and tiring, it was satisfying to see the frame slowly improve as the rust was removed.
Once the rust removal was completed, we moved on to painting the metal frame black. This step made an immediate difference to the appearance of the microlight. The black paint gave the structure a cleaner, more professional look and also helped protect the metal from future corrosion. We worked carefully to apply the paint evenly, learning the importance of proper finishing in any restoration project.
