✈️ Aerospace Discovery Programme: First Meeting — Microlight Grey Team
The Aerospace Discovery Programme officially began for the Microlight Grey Team on 27 October 2025 with our very first meeting at 10:45 AM. The team, consisting of Jason, Ain and Amsyar, met with our supervisor, Mr. Zihad to take a first look at the microlight aircraft that we’ll be working on throughout the programme. The session only lasted 15 minutes, but it marked the exciting start of our project and gave us a clear sense of what lies ahead. During this initial meeting, we didn’t start any repair work yet. Instead, we spent time observing and examining the microlight frame to understand its condition and what kind of restoration it would require.
When we first saw the microlight, it was clear that it had seen better days, the frame was worn and rusty, the seat was old and the structure looked fragile. But rather than seeing it as a problem, we saw it as a challenge and an opportunity to learn. The goal for now isn’t to make the microlight fly, but to rebuild it into something stable and usable at least sturdy enough for someone to sit in safely. As Mr. Zihad explained, this stage is about exploring how microlight structures are designed and built, while thinking creatively and practically about how to improve them.
During the meeting, we walked around the aircraft, discussed its structure, noted damaged and loose parts and shared ideas on how we could strengthen and restore the frame. We also talked about the materials and tools we might need in future sessions. For now, our plan is to focus on rebuilding and reinforcing the structure, cleaning and repainting it and ensuring that it can support weight properly.
Even though it was just our first meeting, it felt like a strong beginning. We left the hangar feeling motivated and full of ideas for how to bring this project to life. Our team are ready to take on the challenge of rebuilding our microlight, learning more about aerospace engineering and making this old frame something we can be proud of. This is only the start of our journey and we can’t wait to see how far it will take us. ✈️
