✈️ Microlight Grey Team: Cleaning Day! | Aerospace Discovery Programme
After our exciting first meeting last month, the Microlight Grey Team returned to the hangar this afternoon for our next big step, cleaning the microlight frame! From 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, we rolled up our sleeves, grabbed some cleaning supplies and got to work giving our future project aircraft a well deserved refresh.
When we first saw the microlight during our first session, it was covered in dust and rust, showing years of wear and exposure. Today’s goal wasn’t about building or fixing yet, it was all about preparing the aircraft for future work by cleaning off dirt, grease and rust so we could get a clearer look at its structure.
We started by brushing off loose dust and debris before wiping down the metal frame and seat areas. Some parts needed extra effort, the old bolts and corners had collected quite a bit of grime but teamwork made it easier. Amsyar focused on the frame joints, Ain cleaned the seat and floor area, while Jason worked on wiping the nose section and body panels. Bit by bit, the microlight began to look cleaner and more defined, revealing its real shape beneath all that dust.
Throughout the session, Mr. Zihad checked in with us, sharing tips on how to clean the frame safely without damaging any parts. He reminded us that good preparation is key before starting any rebuilding process. The cleaning not only made the microlight look better, but it also gave us a closer understanding of which sections might need repair or repainting later on.
By the time we finished around 5:30 PM, the microlight looked much more presentable still old, but now ready for the next step. The session may have been tiring, but seeing the difference after just one afternoon of cleaning felt incredibly rewarding. It was a reminder that progress doesn’t always come from big steps, sometimes it starts with something as simple as a clean surface. 🌤️✈️
